Biedermeier Floral Design
June is the season of the beautiful garden rose. Sprays of these lovely blooms are always such a delight. Although they like to grow free with lots of space, it is fun to try different ways of arranging them. This is a version of a biedermeier shape. It is a classic round, compact design, with little or no space between the flowers. A biedermeier will traditionally have rounds of the same size flower. While this one holds the cone shape and progresses from smaller rose buds on the bottom to the more open ones on the top, it has a softer feel than a true biedermeier.
My love for roses came from my visits to my grandparents home in the Slocan Valley. They had beautiful roses growing all alongside their home. I recall summer days, spending time on their wooden porch, the sun warming the surroundings and the beautiful smells of the rose bushes.
Happy Summer!
